Quirky Concrete Companions

Quirky Concrete Companions: Unveiling the Mystery of the Lewis Bus Shelters

You may well stumble upon a peculiar sight during your explorations of the Isle of Lewis. Those squat, concrete structures scattered across the landscape – they’re not misplaced bunkers, but the island’s very own, unique bus shelters!

Brutalist Beauties:

Built in the 1980s, these bus shelters are prime examples of Brutalist architecture. Think bold geometric shapes and raw concrete – a stark contrast to the rolling hills and rugged coastlines of Lewis. While some might find them unconventional, they’ve become an undeniable symbol of the island’s unique character.

The attached photo shows one of our guests, Julie Wells, taking in the “beauty” of one of these bus shelters!
